While back pain is one of the top reasons that people seek medical attention, the causes for back pain are numerous. Back pain results from a number of different factors and it is important to work with an experienced provider to sort through all of this with you. One of the most frequent causes of back pain, whether low, mid or upper, is spinal stenosis. This narrowing of the spinal canal can compress your spinal nerve roots, causing back and leg pain, leg cramps, leg weakness, muscle spasms, and tingling and numbness. Spinal stenosis is most typically caused by osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is most commonly caused by the aging process and its wear and tear, repetitive injuries and physical stress. Unfortunately, many people don’t realize that inactivity also places people at a much higher risk of developing osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis. Osteoarthritis can cause the development of bone spurs around vertebrae and facet joints, resulting in narrowing the spinal cord canal.

While osteoarthritis is often determined to be the cause of painful spinal stenosis, there are several other causes of spinal stenosis:

  • Disc herniation
  • Spine injury
  • Previous surgery
  • Thickened Ligaments
  • Tumors or cysts
  • Poor Posture

Based upon the cause of your spinal stenosis-induced back pain, you may receive medical treatment, chiropractic care or a combination of these disciplines. This dual-discipline approach assures that you will be accurately diagnosed and receive the particular treatment that addresses the cause of your pain.

Patient Reviews

Through manipulation, stimulation, traction, exercise, muscle shots and epidurals, in a short period of time, I went from only being able to stand for an hour at a time to being able to work a full day. This is a much better alternative than medications and I am truly grateful for the fast, friendly and professional service I have been given.
